You're not OOF - you're WFH (working from home) and online meetings are the new normal. Here's 5 tips to do it well if you are running the show.
1. REACH OUT AND BRING THEM CLOSE
Go for the Greet. Say who is present at the beginning of the call, welcome each member and add a few words to each.
2. GET THEM TALKING
Ask questions, ask for comments and make the meeting as interactive as possible.
3. TALK TO THEM AS INDIVIDUALS
It’s a mistake to think that everybody’s clinging to your every word. Most of the time we're only half listening. Single out people by name to keep them engaged.
4. TREAT PEOPLE AS IF THEY WERE IN THE ROOM
Talk about the weather, birthdays, or chat about real life. Speak with a smile in your voice; people will feel it.
5. CREATE RITUALS RIGHT FROM THE START
Remember the Greet. Finish off well too. Don't just taper off like a deflated balloon.
A good sign you're running an online meeting well is lots of laughing and a busy chat window. And you'll be remembered when we're back in the office.
