leading THROUGH A CRISIS

The VUCA model is a framework used to understand a world of turmoil and uncertainty. It stands for Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity. Feel familiar?
The United States Army War College planners came up with it at the end of the Cold War. It is not sure that they had a pandemic in mind but VUCA is where we are right now.
Leading your team, organisation or company at this time is probably as challenging as it gets. But there are some things you can do.
From Volatility to Vision
Don't get paralyzed by the many changes we are going through
Establish priorities for this time
Communicate clear goals
From Uncertainty to Understanding
Take care of your people and check in with them on a call at least once a week
Relate to their personal situations at home during the crisis
Discuss their work issues with them to help them do their best
From Complexity to Clarity
Clarity means communicating clearly and more often - twice the usual amount at least
Establish routines and processes for this time
"We'll have weekly Zoom meeting, email for all client communication. and use Whatsapp when we need a quick answer from the team. I'll be available at 4pm for phone or video conversations. "
From Ambiguity to Agility
Think in terms of a week at a time.
Make small decisions, learn from them and adapt in response.
In this volatile uncertainty good leadership communication is crucial.
