VIRTUALLY BACK TO NORMAL?


These strange times continue. Some of the team are back at the office - in masks and social distancing - and some are still at home. So your virtually back to normal but altogether not.


This in-between stage is very different to normal working and will be for the next few months at least.


So what have we learned? Talking to a bunch of clients these seem to be the common themes:


1. RISE TO THE OCCASION

People really understand which leaders have stepped up or not. The bosses that communicated openly, encouraged, set direction and really seemed to care will be remembered. This is truly leadership in a crisis.



2. ZOOM < 3 HOURS A DAY

From what I've heard from a bunch of clients it looks like you should limit the amount of video group meetings to around 3 hours a day. Exhaustion and demotivating Zoom Fatigue is just unavoidable if you don't.


3. LESS HAPPY HOURS

Keep up social communication but don't add Happy Hour type meetings more than once every few weeks. Seeing people working at home in your usual meetings is an easy "in" to more personal conversations at the beginning and ends of calls and that should be enough.



That's the general stuff but there are 2 important questions each team should be asking themselves specifically :


What lessons have you learned about how you have got through so far?


What hasn't got done - what was put off or ignored because you were focusing on dealing only with the most immediate things ?


In the meantime celebrate. You have managed this far then feel good and build on that success.
