Search is moving to AI. More and more of us are looking things up in ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude etc. and reading the AI Overview in Google rather than clicking on blue links. ("Leave the Googling to Google" as Google puts it.). Well, what does it take for AI to trust you, or a brand, product or company? Match the pairs in this one-minute matching game vibe coded by me! Press on the question marks, find a matching pair and discover what it takes to get AI to notice you in search.
Search in traditional search engines dropped 15% in the year to June 2025, according to Similarweb. For any tech company that wants to communicate well this is a massive shift. It means that you have to move beyond just ranking in search results and focus on becoming a trusted source and authority that AI systems recognize so that they cite you directly in their answers.
How can any any person, brand or company or brand stand out and be heard now?
SHOW UP TO STAND OUT
You have to show up more both online and offline to build your brand across as many channels as you can.
That means more Audio and Video online where people and the LLMs can see and hear your experience, expertise and authority which is what makes you trustworthy.
THAT MEANS YOU
That also means, even more than in the past, that it is the people who make up your company that should be out there. Podcasts, interviews, keynotes, tutorials, or webinars so that people - and yes the AI systems - can get to know, like and trust you.
Authenticity fosters trust, which is a key signal for both customers and AI search tools .
FRESH & PERSONAL
Back in March this year I wrote a blog post about this saying that now that all knowledge has become common knowledge people are looking for your unique perspective, adventures, lessons learned, and mistakes made in your life and work. Additionally AI search is looking for the latest stuff so it has to be your fresh, updated take on things. That means more updating of the knowledge and insights that only you could know.
People are looking for trust and honesty in a post-truth world and it looks like AI is going for the same things. It's only human.
