SLAPPING THE AI SLOP

2 stories.
Story 1
I found myself moved to tears by a piece of writing. True it was the opening words of the Remembrance Book for my community, but the effect was magnified as I sensed the hand holding the pen. Uniquely phrased and constructed in the writer's authentic voice, it reflecte heart, soul and mind. I asked him afterwards if this was so. He said yes. No AI at all.
Story 2
A COO at a client made a video for LinkedIn using AI generated talking points. That post underperformed by a lot and she received LI messages from a number of agencies to say she sounded like she was using AI and would she like to sound like herself again. She had been rumbled by one of the AI Detectors such as Originality.ai, GPTZero, Copyleaks & Pangram - to name a few. It's AI Software that detects AI content. And they pick up slop even when it's in a video - the reels that are meant to show us the real you.
FOLKS MIND
The Dead Internet Theory is no longer a fringe belief. The theory holds that much of what we see online is machine-generated junk. It is bots talking to bots, commenting & reposting each other's posts automatically. People can feel left on the outside, scrolling through screens of stuff no longer created by humans. But heads up! We care, so now people are actively on board trying to slap down the AI Slop.
At the beginning of August 2026 LinkedIn rolled out a feature that allows people to report posts which don't seem real. Press the 3 dots at the right of any post and you will see “Seems like AI slop” in the menu. In mid September Linkedin said that more than 1 million members have used the new button since they rolled it out.
REAL REELS - WHAT TO DO:
Stay as unscripted as possible. Just be sure of the main things you want to say.
Go for more yap videos. These are the casual short, unscripted videos which look closer to a raw video chat with a friend. You could be walking out of a meeting or sitting around in an office and you are talking directly to the camera.
Keep it fresh.
Share news.... what happened just now. This will not be picked up as regurgitated because it is not.
Keep it Original
Include the stuff that only you could know. Or your spin on real life experiences.
Include these where you can.
Behind-the-scenes detail

Hard Lessons
Authenticity, imperfection, your voice - let's hear it.
AI Use Note:
AI used in research but not in writing. My personal guideline: imagine you are in a library with a big pile of books on the table. Do what they told you when you were 8. "You can use the ideas but you must explain them in your own words, Susan."
