Being a team leader is like being a parent – you only really learn how to be one when you are on the job. But before you know it, it starts to feel like managing a bunch of kids all pulling in different directions.
A clear sign that things are not going well are boring team meetings – the sort where there is just a quick round-up of what's happening and everyone – including you – escapes thankfully back to their laptops.
But on the other hand, if you run a great meeting then team magic can happen.
Here's what you need to do:
Show the vision – at least once every 4 - 6 months you need to lead a team meeting which talks about where you could be, as a company, as a team and as individuals
Reveal your differences – show them your viewpoint, knowledge and inside information.
Everyone needs the big picture to know where you fit in.
Show them you care – relate to what’s on their minds.
Listen to them – remember “Nothing About Us Without Us".
